Thank God for work

At first, I was pretty steamed that I spent the first hour and ten minutes of the BG game in a meeting for work. When I got to a TV and saw it was 13-6, Boise State, I was still pretty pissy, but all right. Then I turned around and saw it was 27-6 and snowballing, and I’m kind of happy I was busy all night.

What I did see wasn’t pretty. Bad special teams, more crappy “tackling”, and this time the offense was barely treading water and couldn’t put up circus numbers to bail the rest of the team out. All bets are off for the rest of the season. I don’t think the rest of the slate will be a waste, as we’re still 1-0 and in control of our own destiny in the MAC East, but the next month and a half has to be ball-check time against powers like Temple, Western Michigan, Akron and Kent State. And the Ohio U. game on October 8 frightens me a little more than it did about 3 hours ago. They have no offense, but if our offense struggles like this against their at times decent defense, it could be lights out. Especially with that option they like to run down there, it shouldn’t work, but with 11 guys that are having trouble grasping the concept of “tackling”, it might not be pretty.

I don’t know that there’s much to say. I’m not on the ledge like a large number of “fans” at the BG fan site, but I’m curious as to what the rest of the season holds. That said, I can’t wait to get back to campus a week from Saturday and drink some Homecoming beers back at ol’ Bee Gee!

Now, for the comedy:

“I should have stayed at work rather than watch this rusty coat hanger job.” -In my comments

“Our special teams have been the kind of “special” that earns you a seat on the short bus to school.” -from Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba.com

“The defensive gameplan appears to be ‘hope the guy with the ball falls over.’ ” –DJL

On the lookout for more….
